Toby’s research spans theoretical physics, mathematics, computer science, and information theory, with publications in leading journals like Nature, Science, and PNAS. He studied at the University of Cambridge and earned a PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics. He is Professor of Quantum Information at UCL and leads the Quantum Lab. A former Royal Society Research Fellow (2013–2022), he has received the AHP-Birkhäuser Prize and the Whitehead Prize, and has held key roles in the QIP conference and academic editorial boards.
